Your child will flip at the chance to tackle new challenges at their own skill level in a super fun environment.
While age is the beginner guideline for how our classes are organized, our curriculum allows for flexibility that acknowledges that children develop at different rates. Placement is also based on skill, ability & experience.
Participants will develop flexibility, body positioning, improved posture, rhythmic movement, balance and strength. Girls will work on developing proper form on the following apparatus: floor, beam, bars, vault, and tumbltrak.
Tiger Shark gymnastics is open to girls 6-9 yrs with little or no previous experience. Your child will focus on learning balancing, strengthing, and building self-confidence in a supportive environment with dedicated coaches. Gymnasts will also learn to do basic gymnastics skills such as cartwheels, bridges, and pullovers on bars. The skills included on Beginner skill evalutation sheets must be mastered in order to progress to Intermediate.
Beginner Skills Include (but not limited to):
· Become comfortable walking on the high beam by themselves
· Learn to do a pullover on bars
· Gain strength to hold their own weight up in a front support and forward roll down
· Perform backward roll to their feet on a flat floor
· Do bridges with straight arms on a flat floor surface
· Learn basic lever mechanics
· Perform cartwheel starting and finishing in and feet on the floor lunge position and correct order of hands
· Learn how to run and punch the springboard with two feet
Hammer Shark gymnastics is open to girls 6 - 18 yrs. This class teaches children how to build upon their knowledge of balance, strength, and coordination. They will learn the proper mechanics of basic gymnastics skills, while exploring just how much fun this sport can be! Intermediate gymnasts learn back hip circles on bars, handstands on beam, pivot cartwheels on floor and begin handstand vaults. All the skills for Intermediate must be mastered in order to progress to Advanced 1.
Intermediate Skills Include (but not limited to):
· Work pullovers and back hip-circles
· Perform handstands with the proper mechanics
· Improve running and punching onto springboard for vault
· Achieve levers on a high beam with proper mechanics
· Learn beginning handstands on a high beam
· Perform backward roll to pike stand
· Complete all cartwheel progressions
· Learn roundoff mechanics
· Begin learning how to hurdle into tumbling
· Work bridge kick-over with straight legs down cheese mat
Students in Advanced 1 will work towards more advanced tumbling such as walkovers, handsprings, master handstands on the beam, and begin working high bar skills.They will also focus on learning running tumbling, kips on the bars, cartwheels and full turns on the balance beam.
Advanced 1 Skills Include (but not limited to):
Floor
· Roundoff, aerials, front tucks
· Handstand pop
· Front and back walkover
· Front handspring
· Roundoff back handspring with a spot and on tumble track
Vault
· Half onto the mat stack
· Handstand onto the table
· Handstand off the table
· Fron handspring with a spot
· Handstand flat back over the table and onto the mat stack
Bars
· Pullover
· Back hip circle
· Back hip circle underswing
· Mill circle with a spot
· Squat on
· Kip with a spot
Beam
· Releve hold for 20 seconds
· Straight, tuck, and split jumps
· L-handstand and full handstand on high beam
· Cartwheel on low beam and high beam with a spot
· Roundoff, FHS and front tuck dismount
Students progressing to the Advanced 2 class must have already acquired running tumbling skills, all basic skills on uneven bars, the ability to vault over the table and be comfortable working advanced acro-skills on the balance beam. This class is an example of how far recreational gymnastics can take you. The advanced class is also great for gymnasts who may have been on Team and no longer wish to compete, but still want to practice gymnastics for other disciplines (such as cheer) or for personal fitness.
Advanced 2 Skills Include (but not limited to):
Floor
· Handstand
· Cartwheel
· Walkovers
· Handstand to bridge
· Backward roll to feet
· Handstand forward roll
· Bridge kickover down cheese
· Roundoff: step hurdle, running
Vault
· Squat on, straddle on, and pike on
· Handstand on and Handstand off
· Handstand flat back over the vault table onto the mat stack
Bars
· Glide swing
· Pullover
· Back hip circle
· Cast to horizontal
· Tap swings with re-grip
· Leg cut, mill circle with a spot
Beam
· Releve holds for ten seconds
· Pivot turns
· Straight, tuck and split jumps
· Teeter totters with proper form
· Cartwheel handstand dismounts and round-off without spot
· Full and l handstands on low beam with spot
· Cartwheels alone on a line and with spot on a low beam
